China has confirmed that it has given the go ahead to the country's first fully private airline to begin services by the end of 2004.

Okay Airways will concentrate mainly on domestic charter and cargo flights and is the first private airline to be granted a licence in China. The Chinese government gave private airlines permission to apply for licences in May 2004.

Okay Airways - also known as Aokai Airlines - will operate a fleet of six Boeing 747 aircraft. United Eagle Airlines and Air Spring have also both applied for government approval, reports the BBC.
