A man who tried to board a flight without a valid ticket has reportedly jumped to his death over a second storey railing at Great Falls International Airport.

The 42-year-old man's erratic behaviour had alerted a nearby security guard and as he called police on his radio the man dived over the railing. The man had arrived at the airport with a valid ticket but not for the 0600 flight he tried to board.

Relatives of the man said that he was mentally ill and that he had travelled to Great Falls, where his sister lives, from Florida. A spokesperson for the airline said that the man had become agitated when the security guard asked his name, reports The Associated Press.
