The body of a man in his 20s was discovered in the wheel well of an American Airlines aircraft from Miami when it landed at Detroit Metropolitan Airport on 22 October 2004.

An airport worker discovered the body after all the passengers had disembarked the flight which had originated in the Caribbean. A spokesperson for the airport said that the aircraft had landed at Detroit in the early hours of 22 October 2004 and that the body was now undergoing an autopsy at the Wayne County Medical Examiner's Office.

Attempting to stow away in the wheel wells of aircraft is not an unknown practice but is usually fatal due to the severe temperature and pressure conditions when the aircraft is in the air, reports The Associated Press.
