Myrtle Beach International Airport's request for an extra USD1m in funding for its expansion project has been taken to the Myrtle Beach City Council which will vote on the issue.

The money has been requested so the airport can build a temporary structure to add three aircraft parking positions until the airport's USD185m expansion is completed in 2007. The city council was reluctant to fund the original USD1.5m request but has committed to a USD2m contribution to the airport from the former aviation fund of which USD1m has been proposed for the temporary structure.

A spokesperson for the city council said that it was more than likely that the new funds would come from the former aviation fund, now called the Seascape fund, and that it wasn't looking for contributions from airlines, reports The Sun News.
