Thai Airways International is planning to raise its fuel surcharge on international flights by the end of November 2004 to help it manage the rising cost of fuel.
Thailand's national carrier is now seeking permission from the Department of Aviation to increase the surcharge it introduced in June 2004. The surcharge on routes to the Middle East and Asia would rise to USD10 and on inter-continental flights the surcharge would rise by USD5 to USD20.
International flights make up 90% of the airline's revenue, with fuel contributing 20% to its costs. Thai Airways reported a shock third quarter loss after rising fuel costs which have now thrown its annual forecast into doubt, reports Reuters.
