Russian national carrier Aeroflot has become the latest airline to announce that it is to add a fuel surcharge onto its ticket prices due to the high cost of oil.

The airline's commercial director Yevgeny Bachurin said that the new surcharge would take effect from 1 November 2004 and would vary depending on the route but would average between USD10 and USD15 on each one-way ticket.

Bachurin said that the airline had held off adding a surcharge for as long as possible and had hoped that the oil price would fall. Fuel costs make up 30% of Aeroflot's overall costs, reports The Associated Press.
