AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
US aircraft maker Boeing has brought an end to one of its most successful aircraft programmes with the competition of its final 757 aircraft which is to be delivered to Shanghai Airlines.
The 757 was celebrated with a ceremony at Boeing's Renton, Washington plant where the final production model was given centre stage. The aircraft entered production in 1981 and has become one of only seven commercial aircraft to have sold over 1000 units and was popular with pilots who enjoyed its smooth handling and power.
The aircraft will be replaced by a combination of an improved 737 aircraft and the introduction of Boeing's latest model the 7E7 Dreamliner which is set to be launched in 2008.
