Typhoons prove costly for Japanese airlines

A series of flight cancellations due to typhoons have caused the two biggest airlines in Japan to lose some JPY5bn in sales.

A record eight typhoons have hit Japan this year.

The country's Kyodo news agency reports that All Nippon Airways (ANA) had 1,583 typhoon-related flight cancellations by the end of September, accounting for more than JPY2.0bn in lost sales.

Meanwhile Japan Airlines cancelled around 1,500 flights, losing some JPY3.0bn in sales.
