The BBC and US aircraft manufacturer Boeing have started talks over introducing live in-flight television through Boeing's Connexion system.

The Connexion system will go live in May 2005 on board a Lufthansa aircraft and has also been selected by seven other airlines. Passengers will be able to choose between four live television channels from different broadcasters by connecting their laptops to the Connexion Internet service.

Boeing is said to have approached US cable TV station CNN about the project as well as the BBC. The aircraft manufacturer claims that the in-flight Internet market could be worth up to USD3bn a year within the next ten years, reports the New Zealand Herald.
