Aer Lingus privatisation plans may be shelved

A leaked Irish government report apparently shows that plans to sell national carrier Aer Lingus are to be shelved due the unattractive state of the airline market.

A cabinet sub-committee set up to decide on the issue has reportedly missed its deadline of the end of September 2004 to report back on the fate of the struggling carrier and has given no indication that it would back privatisation.

Three members of the Aer Lingus management team have already handed in applications for permission to bid for the airline but due to the latest delay in deciding its fate they could end up disappointed, reports Business World.
