Canadian airlines urged to weigh passengers when using small aircraft

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
Airlines operating small passenger aircraft in Canada may soon have to weigh their passengers to determine an aircraft's actual weight load.
New recommendations from the Transportation Safety Board (TSB) call for airlines to use the actual weight of passengers when calculating a small aircraft's load. The advice comes after an investigation into a January 2004 crash that killed 10 people when a Cessna aircraft crashed into Lake Erie because it was more than 454kg overweight.
A spokesperson for the TSB said that it would be up to the airlines to decide on how they would determine passenger weight, whether they used a survey or scales, reports Canoe.com.
