The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has said that it will refund the 15,000 airline passengers who claim that their belongings were lost, stolen or damaged when being screened by security.

The TSA expects to pay on average USD110 to each complainant after it took responsibility for checking all bags for suspect items in 2002. The TSA and airlines had been in dispute over who should take responsibility for damaged luggage since the new checks started.

A spokesperson for the TSA said that 15,000 out of 18,000 complainants will receive some sort of compensation, reported The Associated Press.
