Delta Air Lines has met with bankruptcy lawyers to discuss what needs to happen if the heavily in debt airline does have to file for bankruptcy protection.

The airline however said that it remains optimistic about striking a deal with its pilots over early retirement after a number of pilots opted to take advantage of a lump-sum pension payout that could be threatened if the airline went into bankruptcy.

A spokesperson for Delta Air Lines said that it had met with bankruptcy lawyers so it would be prepared if it had to file for bankruptcy protection. The airline recently unveiled a restructuring plan which would see the loss of 7,000 jobs, reports Reuters.
