The Israeli Civil Aviation Administration (CAA) has said that it believes a deal with European airlines over passenger capacity to Tel Aviv can be reached.

Lufthansa, Alitalia and Swiss International Air Lines all appealed to the Israeli Supreme Court to block the CAA from forcing them to cut down on the number of flights and size of aircraft to Tel Aviv. The court has so far supported the airlines and has set a date in October 2004 for the case to be heard.

A CAA spokesperson said that it is willing to compromise and is in talks with the three airlines. The airlines believe that bilateral air service agreements signed in the 1970s bar any limits on service and capacity between Tel Aviv and Europe, reports Reuters.
