Italian airline Alitalia has sealed a concessions deal with its ground staff and is now seeking a last-minute deal with cabin crews as it has passed its 15 September 2004 settlement deadline.

A deal with pilots was settled on 14 September 2004 after they agreed to work longer hours for less pay and now ground staff have agreed to a cut in benefits and the loss of 2,500 jobs in order to keep the airline in business.

Talks with cabin crew unions are ongoing and the airline has called a board meeting for Monday 20 September 2004 to request access to a EUR400m loan which will keep the airline afloat while it restructures, reports Reuters.
