Embraer suspends aircraft deliveries to US Airways

Airline Industry Information, Sept 16, 2004

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2004 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer has suspended the delivery of aircraft to US Airways after the airline filed for bankruptcy.

A spokesperson for Embraer said that despite US Airways' precarious situation and the damage it could do to the manufacturer's production targets it is determined to reach its delivery goal of 160 small to medium sized aircraft by the end of 2004. Deliveries will be suspended until a deal is reached between the two companies.

US Airways owes Embraer USD1.47bn in future aircraft commitments. When US Airways filed for bankruptcy the first time in 2001 it did not affect its USD2.1bn order for 85 of the EMBRAER 170 aircraft and the manufacturer is hoping for the same outcome this time around, reports Reuters.
