Continental Airlines has announced that it has cancelled contracts with 20 airlines it had multi-carrier "interline" ticketing and baggage-handling agreements with.

The airline made the decision after the airlines involved refused or did not have the facilities to offer paperless ticketing. Continental Airlines has now cancelled over 70 interline agreements as part of its drive to eliminate paper tickets by the end of 2005.

Continental Airlines took the decision to become paperless in light of the International Air Transport Association's initiative to eliminate all paper airline tickets by 2007 in an attempt to cut down on theft, loss and administrative costs.
