Over 100 lawmakers in the US have signed a letter to United Airlines opposing the carrier's move to end its pension plans in a bid to exit bankruptcy.
The letter by Democratic Reps. George Miller of California and Jan Schakowsky of Illinois said that while they understood the airline's difficulty they believe it is unfair to ask employees to sacrifice their retirement along with the wage cuts and benefit concessions they have already agreed to.
United Airlines said that the plan could save it USD4.1bn over the next five years. A total of 104 House members signed the letter of opposition which will be sent to United Airlines' CEO Glen Tilton, reports The Associated Press.
