Aircraft manufacturer Bombardier has announced that it has narrowed down the choice of engine makers for its planned 110-135 seat commercial passenger jet.

A spokesperson for Bombardier said that the company was now deciding between two consortiums, CFM International consisting of General Electric and France's Snecma, and IAE made up of Pratt & Whitney, Rolls-Royce, Japanese Aero Engines Corp and Germany's MTU Aero Engines.

Bombardier said that it is looking for an engine that is not currently made and also at upgraded versions of certain engines from the two consortiums.

The proposal for the new jet will be put before the Bombardier board on 31 January 2005, reports Reuters.
