Flights into Jakarta, Indonesia were delayed on 20 September 2004 as the country went to the polls to vote in national elections.

A spokesperson for the Soekarno-Hatta International Airport said that flights to and from Yogyakarta, Surabaya, Balikpapan, Semarang, Makassar, Manado, Padang, Palembang, Pekanbaru, Jayapura, Pontianak, Bengkulu and Tanjung Karang were all rescheduled to allow people to vote.

Flights returned to normal after midday local time with 21 polling stations located across the airport for those who still had not managed to vote. The Indonesian authorities declared 20 September 2004 a national holiday to enable people to get to polling stations, reports The Associated Press.
