Thailand's new Suvarnabhumi Airport is not likely to be ready on time, according to reports, despite the Prime Minister's threat to camp out on site to speed up construction.

The airport will serve as Bangkok's new international hub and Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and a number of cabinet ministers have said they will camp out at the site on 27 September 2004 to speed up its completion.

The THB2.1bn airport was scheduled to be ready for safety testing in September 2005 but is not expected to be ready because contractors have allegedly under-performed. Shimizu and Wichitpan Construction has only finished 19% of its workload despite promises to be finished in May 2005, reports The Associated Press.
