Mexican carrier Mexicana Airlines is considering starting a service from Charlotte, North Carolina, giving the airline an East Coast mid-point between New York and Miami.

Officials met with Charlotte airport and business executives last week to discuss the area's travel needs and North Carolina's growing Hispanic population. A spokesperson for Mexicana said that its evaluation of the market should be completed by October 2004.

The Mexico City-based airline first expressed an interest in starting a service from Charlotte in early 2003, reports The Charlotte Observer.
