Air Canada has continued its preparations for leaving bankruptcy by signing a purchase agreement with Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer.
The deal for 45 EMBRAER 190 aircraft is based on Air Canada leaving bankruptcy protection and also includes options on a further 45 aircraft. The firm order is valued at USD1.35bn at list price with the total order including options worth USD2.7bn.
Deliveries are due to start in November 2005. A spokesperson said that the introduction of the Embraer aircraft fits in perfectly with Air Canada's plan to offer high frequency, low-cost services on new and existing routes.
