A second Olympic Airlines flight to New York has had to be diverted due to a bomb threat called in to a Greek newspaper.

The flight, which left Greece at 1300 local time on 28 September 2004, was diverted to Shannon airport in Ireland after a threat was received in Greece at 1545 local time saying that a bomb on the aircraft would explode within an hour.

The aircraft was evacuated and searched for seven hours at Shannon airport before being cleared to resume its journey. This is the second such incident involving an Olympic Airlines flight to New York in the last three days. On 26 September 2004 a flight was diverted to London's Stansted Airport after a similar threat, reports Reuters.
