Arrivals at Phuket International Airport in Thailand have risen by 27% in 2004 according to the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT).
The TAT office in Phuket had originally estimated that arrivals would rise by 10% over 2003 but successful campaigns in Asia and the Middle East have resulted in an even bigger increase in visitors than expected.
Government figures show that 4.17m passengers passed through the airport in the period between 1 October 2003 and 31 August 2004, a rise of 30%, and that flights to the airport in the same period increased by over 21%, reports The Associated Press.
