German travel group TUI AG has said that it is to cut 8% of its workforce in the UK in an attempt to streamline its business.

The 800 jobs are set to go from its UK travel companies Thomson and Lunn Poly and charter airline Britannia at the end of 2004.

A spokesperson for the company said that changes in booking and travelling habits have led to a need to bring in more efficient structures, reports The Associated Press.
