Norwegian airport operator Avinor has reportedly said that it could no longer guarantee travellers' safety when they fly from small airports in Norway.

Avinor reportedly suggested that travellers be observant and take another look around in the check-in line.

A crisis meeting on Norwegian aviation security has reportedly been called due to an incident on Wednesday (29 September) in which a passenger attacked two pilots with an axe.

Avinor reportedly said that it was willing to take measures to prevent a similar midair incident, but a spokesman for the company added that in order to do that every person would have to be checked with a metal detector, or by personal search.

Also thorough searches of hand luggage and other luggage would have to be conducted, the spokesman said, according to the Norwegian online news service Nettavisen.
