A second labour union representing workers from United Airlines has added its voice to calls for a trustee to be appointed to oversee the company's bankruptcy restructuring.

The Association of Flight Attendants (AFA) has filed a motion to join with the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers in requesting that United Airlines' CEO Glenn Tilton is replaced by a trustee appointed by a court.

Both unions claim that United Airlines' management had lost the trust of its employees, while the airline has hit back by accusing the two unions of undermining the work being done to restructure the airline with baseless legal filings.

The oral arguments for and against the motion will be heard in court on 17 September 2004, reports The Associated Press.
