Gensler's Detroit airport terminal plans get the go-ahead

The Wayne County Airport Authority board has voted to approve a contract with Gensler Architecture, Design and Planning to provide service for the North Terminal Redevelopment project at Detroit Metropolitan Wayne County Airport.

Under the contract, valued at USD32.8m, Gensler will provide architectural, design and engineering support for the project which will see a new passenger terminal built to replace the aging L.C. Smith Terminal at the airport.

The new terminal will service a number of airlines including Air Canada, American Airlines, America West Airlines, Independence Air, Spirit, Southwest Airlines, US Airways and United Airlines. The project will include a new shopping and leisure area, up to 29 gates and improved check-in facilities.
