A clear timetable for the opening of the Hong Kong-mainland China air market has been agreed at a meeting between officials on 8 September 2004.

The Mainland - Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Air Services Arrangement review has agreed to expand the number of airlines and capacity limits on individual routes that can operate between Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland for the first time since the original deal was signed in 2000.

Limits on the number of airlines allowed to operate the routes will be lifted immediately while the number of dual designation routes will be increased on each side in phases. The changes in overall capacity will start with a 30% increase in October 2004, reports The Associated Press.
