Bombardier returns to profit

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
Aircraft and train maker Bombardier Inc said on Thursday (31 March) that it returned to profit in its latest quarter.
The company said that its net income for the fourth quarter ended 31 January was USD56m, or USD0.03 a share, compared with a loss of USD340m or USD0.20 a share a year earlier. Revenue in the quarter declined to USD4.80bn from USD4.87bn.
Business jet deliveries for the quarter increased 44% while orders were up 69% year-on-year.
For the full fiscal 2005 year, the company's net loss remained level with the previous year at USD85m. On a per-share basis the loss decreased to USD0.06 from USD0.07. Full-year revenue increased to USD15.84bn from USD15.51bn in fiscal 2004, helped by the company's rail business.
Based on the results for fiscal 2005, Bombardier said that it will not pay a dividend on common shares in fiscal 2006.
