Icelandic company FL Group hf, parent company of the airline Icelandair, said on Monday (11 April) that its board of directors had agreed to exercise an option to buy five new Boeing 737-800 aircraft from the US aircraft maker Boeing.

The new aircraft would be in addition to the 10 aircraft that the group signed for in January 2005.

The company said that the leasing contracts for the first five aircraft, to be delivered in 2006, were currently being finalized, and as the market conditions for the Boeing 737-800 were good, the company had decided to add five aircraft to the package.

The total list price of the five new aircraft was valued at ISK20bn.

FL Group hf was formerly known as Flugleidir Icelandair Group, but changed its name on 23 March 2005.
