The runways at Paris' Orly airport could be damaged by Boeing's 777-300ER aircraft, according to the airport operator Aeroports de Paris (ADP).

According to ADP the aircraft could exert too much pressure, especially during take-off. French newspaper La Tribune reported that Air France KLM has ordered seven of the aircraft from the US-based manufacturer. These aircraft will reportedly replace the airline's Boeing 747 aircraft and would be operated from Orly to destinations in the French overseas territories in the summer of 2007.

The 777-300ER is lighter than the Boeing 747 or the Airbus A380, but the weight is centred on just 12 wheels while the Airbus A380 will have 22, ADP noted. The operator said that it has started talks with Air France for a solution to the problem.

Boeing on the other hand has said that four airlines are currently operating the new 777-300ER and none of these have damaged the runways.
