Singapore Airlines to increase fares

Airline Industry Information, April 25, 2005

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

Singapore Airlines said on Friday (22 April) that it will increase fares because of high fuel prices.

Beginning in May, the fares for flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur will go up by USD10 while long-haul flights will increase by USD30, but the carrier said it does not expect the increase in fares to completely offset the increase of fuel costs.

The carrier expects the additional fuel cost to exceed USD300m for the 2005-2006 financial year.

A number of flights, including the Singapore-Bali route, will not suffer a higher fuel surcharge.

SilkAir, a Singapore Airlines Ltd subsidiary, said it will also increase its fares for most routes by USD8 because of jet fuel costs.
