A union of Greek civil aviation workers on Friday (22 April) withdrew threats to launch a 48-hour strike during Orthodox Easter.

The union threatened to stage the strike on April 26-27 (Orthodox Easter Sunday is on 1 May), demanding back payments from the period of the Olympic Games and Christmas. The strike would have caused major flight disruptions during one of the busiest times of the year.

The civil aviation workers decided to give the management and the government time until 31 May to resolve the issue, said the head of the union.

On Thursday (21 April), about 100 domestic flights were cancelled in Greece, as a one-day strike by civil aviation employees forced most regional airports to close.
