Alitalia rescue plan to get initial EU approval

The European Commission has given initial approval to a rescue plan for indebted Italian airline Alitalia, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters on Monday (25 April).

The Commission has given its initial technical approval to the plan but now the case has to go to the Commission departments, the source said.

The European Commission had received all of the information it had requested from the Italian authorities through official channels, but a final decision can be expected at the end of May or early June, said a Commission spokesperson.
