AirTran announces first quarter loss

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD
AirTran Holdings, parent company of low-cost carrier AirTran Airways, announced on Tuesday (26 April) its first quarter financial results.
AirTran reported a first-quarter net loss of USD8m, compared with a net profit of USD4.1m in the same period of 2004. Operating revenue for the period increased 24.2% to USD300m.
The carrier said its cost per available seat mile, including fuel, increased 7.7% for the first quarter to USD8.90. In the same period fuel costs rose by 65.8% to USD85.4m.
