In Spain, almost one million passengers are expected to be affected by planned strikes during the coming weekend.

The Comisiones Obreras union, a union for transportation employees, has said that about 14,000 union members will go on a 24-hour strike on 29 April and 4 May, affecting the country's 44 airports. The two dates mark the start and end of a long holiday weekend in Spain, The Associated Press reported.

The action is reportedly supported by the UGT and the USO unions. The striking union wants a collective labour agreement with the ASEATA business association. It also wants the national airport authority AENA to retain current employees when it tenders new licences.

Negotiations with ASEATA and AENA are reportedly still in progress and the strikes will be called off if an agreement can be reached before Friday (29 April).
