Bob Rae, a former Premier of Ontario, has been appointed to find out whether an inquiry into the Air India bombing case is necessary.

The former Premier will reportedly make a recommendation on whether a public inquiry will be needed to find out if the Canadian police and the country's espionage agency mismanaged the case.

Rae will be reviewing the actions taken by the police after the bombing in 1985, according to the public safety minister Anne McLellan. Air India flight 182 was bombed off the Irish coast, killing 329 people. Relatives of those who were killed in the attack have demanded a public inquiry.
