Airport authorities have said that a radio signal malfunction caused the control tower to think that a US Airways aircraft landing in Charlotte on 31 March had been hijacked.

The aircraft had to land in remote area at Charlotte Douglas International Airport and passengers were kept on board for about 30 minutes before being allowed to disembark.

Officials said that the signal would be fixed before the aircraft is allowed to fly again.
