Airlines to lose USD5.5bn - claim

The airline industry around the world will lose an estimated USD5.5bn in 2005, the International Air Transport Association (IATA) CEO said on Monday (4 April).

IATA's chief executive Giovanni Bisignani said that fuel hedging levels will fall to 20% in 2005 from 40% in 2004, and estimated that fuel will make up 20% of airlines' operating costs in 2005.
