2 million Poles expected to travel to Rome

The Polish Foreign Ministry said on Tuesday (5 April) that about 2 million Poles are expected to travel to Rome for the funeral of Polish-born Pope John Paul II.

Polish national carrier LOT said that it will have five flights to Rome on Wednesday (6 April) instead of the usual one. The carrier wanted to add even more flights to meet demand, but the Italian authorities did not give the permission, said a spokesperson for the carrier.

Slovakian budget airline SkyEurope said on Tuesday that it was adding four extra flights from Krakow and Warsaw to Rome on Tuesday (5 April) and Thursday (7 April) to meet demand.
