The Bulgarian Transport Ministry has chosen Danish airport operator Copenhagen Airports to upgrade and manage its Varna and Bourgas airports, a government source said on Thursday (7 April).

The cabinet was expected to vote on the decision later on Thursday, said the source quoted by Reuters. The ministry declined to comment on the move before it was published in the State Gazette.

The investor will have to pay a EUR3m charge after signing the agreement and then annually at least 12% of the income from concession activities, or 12% of airport taxes, whichever is higher. The Bulgarian transport minister has also said that he expects investments of EUR150m for the two airports.
