Greek police have arrested a man who claimed to have received a mobile phone text message from a passenger on board the Helios Airways aircraft before it crashed.

The message from the man's cousin was said to have read: "The pilot has turned blue. Cousin farewell, we're freezing". However authorities could not find the name of the cousin on the passenger list and they have arrested the 32-year-old for disseminating false information and causing a public disturbance.

The Helios Airways Boeing 737 crashed in a mountainous area north of Athens, Greece on Sunday (14 August) as it was flying from Larnaca in Cyprus to Athens International Airport. All 115 passengers and six crew members on board were killed and investigations into the crash are focusing on the possibility that there was a failure of cabin pressure or oxygen supply inside the aircraft.

Autopsies on some of the victims' bodies have shown that at least six of those killed in the crash were still alive at the time of impact, however they may not have been conscious.

Police searched offices of Helios Airways on Monday (15 August) to collect documents relating to the crashed aircraft. A spokesperson for the airline said that it was cooperating fully with the authorities.
