Families with babies in the US have faced disruption when attempting to board flights if their infants' names match those of potential terrorist suspects on the government's no-fly list.

In one instance a couple departing from Dulles International Airport in the Washington area were informed by airline staff that their 11-month-old son was on the government list. The family was only able to board the flight after having the child's passport details faxed to the airline and the necessary paperwork completed.

According to The Associated Press, the US government has sought to improve its process for checking passengers since the attacks on 11 September 2001 and is hoping to introduce an updated version of the current system called Secure Flight in the future.
