Air France operated a special flight from Panama to the French Caribbean island of Martinique on Saturday (20 August).

The humanitarian flight returned home 143 tourists who were stranded in Panama after a West Caribbean Airways aircraft crashed in Venezuela on 16 August.

A second flight to carry another 157 passengers to Martinique was also planned.

The operations of West Caribbean Airways were suspended following the crash of its MD-82 aircraft last week. The flight had been carrying 152 tourists and eight Colombian crew members from Panama to Martinique and all on board were killed.
