Sharp increase in Q2 orders for Boeing and Airbus

According to a report from an airline industry trade group on Friday (19 August), aircraft manufacturers Boeing Co and Airbus took orders for a combined total of 529 large aircraft in the second quarter, an increase from 161 in first quarter of the year.

Figures compiled by the Aerospace Industries Association revealed that the total came near the 633 aircraft with at least 100 seats ordered from the two companies in all of 2004, said Reuters.

According to the figures released on Friday Boeing booked a total of 379 orders in the second quarter, with Airbus booking 150.

In addition the figures revealed that the industry recorded USD98.9bn in net new orders through to June, which would total USD197.7bn for the year if the trend continues, compared to USD164.9bn in 2004 and USD166bn in 2000, reported Reuters.
