An official investigation has been launched by Hungary's air traffic control authorities after an Air France Airbus A340 and a Serbian JAT Boeing 737 came within 60 metres of each other over western Hungary on Saturday (20 August).

The two aircraft were flying over western Hungary at an altitude of 10,330 metres (34,000 feet), said The Associated Press.

According to the Hungarian air traffic controllers' union the incident was a result of poor equipment and inadequate staffing, a claim which has been refuted by HungaroControl, Hungary's air control service.
