The US Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has unveiled a new explosives detection trace portal at Baltimore/Washington International Airport.

The equipment is part of a pilot programme to test new technologies for screening passengers.

The explosives detection trace portal is a walk-through device similar to a metal detector. The equipment blows air on passengers and then analyses the air for explosive materials. If the portal's alarm sounds, the passenger is then subject to additional screening.
