American Airlines to remove pillows from domestic flights

Airline Industry Information, Feb 11, 2005

AIRLINE INDUSTRY INFORMATION-(C)1997-2005 M2 COMMUNICATIONS LTD

American Airlines has revealed that it will be removing pillows from most of its domestic flights in a move expected to save the airline USD370,000 per year.

Blankets will still be provided, but pillows will no longer be available on nearly all of American Airlines' flights within the continental US, Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico and Central America.

In November 2004 the airline announced that it would remove pillows from its MD-80 aircraft and from Tuesday (15 February) this will be extended to its Boeing 737s and 757s and Airbus A300s operating domestic services.

The decision will not affect coast-to-coast transcontinental flights, nor services to Hawaii. Pillows will also still be available on international flights to Europe, Asia and South America.
